Bikes and trucks are meeting on the streets way too often in Canterbury and the outcome is always bad for all involved.  This panel will discuss what organisations and individuals can do to eliminate these events.

  • Waka Kotahi have a Road to Zero campaign aimed at eliminating road deaths by 2030.
  • NZ Trucking Association want to make truck activities safer for their members, often the drivers involved in these incidents have extended non-driving time.
  • The Share the Road Campaign has been addressing this issue for the past 5 years or so by getting cyclists and heavy vehicle drivers together and swapping roles.
  • Cycling advocates have seen it all before, a lot of words but nothing happens.

Representatives of these bodies will have 5 minutes each to address the issues and this will be followed by discussion with the opportunity for questions and suggestions from the floor.

Please come and contribute to the discussion, who knows, it just might make a difference.

PANEL:    Richard Barter Share the Road Campaign Manager, Cycling Action Network
David Boyce Chief Executive Officer, NZ Trucking Association
James Caygill Director Regional Relationships (Canterbury, West Coast, Otago, Southland), NZTA/Waka Kotahi
